Thank you for visiting our ad-free, hype-free site. We hope you enjoy your visit:

We thought it was time to present a thoughtful collection of the best journeys around the world by luxury ship or flying by private jet. These Ultimate Journeys are evaluated by professionals and we present product and itinerary rankings that are Ad-Free and Hype-Free. The Content on this site is not sponsored or paid for and we do not accept complimentary travel in exchange for kind words.

So who is Churchill & Turen and why should you believe anything we say? After all, this is the internet.

You can click on the details above to read a bit of “propaganda” about our credentials. But for now, let us summarize our collective background and why we feel we may be the best-positioned consultants you will encounter to assist you with the planning of your “Ultimate Journey”.

  • We are the only firm representing the world’s best Around-The-World cruise lines and private jet companies that does not employ travel agents or commissioned salespeople of any type.
  • We have been in business for 37 years and, in that time, we have won more “World’s Best Travel Specialists” Awards than any other firm in the nation (source Conde Nast Traveler)
  • We are part of the $27 Billion Worldwide Virtuoso Group and have been named their top-producing consultants for four of the past five years.
  • We charge no fees of any kind in conjunction with the Planning and Operation of any Ultimate Journey featured on this site. Our services are provided to you on a complimentary basis.

As long-time consumer advocates, we advise you to research the background of anyone you meet online. Please check us out thoroughly. And then call us with some tough questions.

Do allow us to address one question you may be too polite to ask:

“This is a big expenditure. How do I know I am getting the best price”?

Every other website that purports to “sell” longer cruises or private jet vacations claims to have the best pricing. They expect you to believe that each company is given different pricing for these one-of-a-kind Lifetime journeys. If you believe that – please work with them. We are seeking the intelligent traveler who understands that no company would alienate the many travel firms that support them by offering a few better pricing than the others. It just never happens – never. Every top-tier travel firm gets exactly the same pricing from every one of the companies listed on the following pages. If they didn’t – they would stop supporting them. In fact, if a firm discounted some portion of their commission and got caught, they would likely lose the right to sell the product. We take it one step further – we certify in writing that you are receiving 100% of all legitimate pricing offers, discounts, past guests, and other amenities in writing. Every Churchill & Turen guest receives this document.

So now let’s concentrate on helping you find your own Ultimate Journey Around-The-World or parts of it in depth. Enjoy your search and please know we are always available to help assist you in any way that we can.

AND NOW – MAY WE PRESENT THE WORLD’S ULTIMATE JOURNEYS

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND BY PRIVATE JET

DATES:                    MAY 2-21, 2022

OPERATOR             NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC

# DAYS                    20 DAY PRIVATE JET EXPERIENCE

FROM/TO:             QUEENSTOWN TO  MELBOURNE

ITINERARY RATING:          A –

At first glance, one wonders why, with so many land tour options that combine Australia and New Zealand for three weeks, it would be necessary to do this program by private jet. But the details of the sightseeing program reveals an approach that goes more in-depth than tours that rely on scheduled air services. We are extremely impressed with the unique approach to both historical as well as contemporary life touring. While we do question the idea of doing a private jet within one or two countries, if in-depth touring and convenience is a goal, this excellent program hits all the right notes.

PRIVATE JET PROFILE                   You will be flying a smaller but well-regarded  FOKKER 70 Jet, an aircraft used commercially in Europe and the United States for flights of less than two hours. There are 46 2×2 VIP-style seats on an aircraft operated by Alliance Airlines.

THE DETAILED DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

DAYS 1 – 3:     QUEENSTOWN, SOUTH ISLAND, NEW ZEALAND– Hotel St. Moritz

Our first flight by private jet brings us to Rotorua, a city built partially upon geothermal land on the North Island. This bubbling expanse of mud pools, geysers, and hot springs is considered sacred by the indigenous Maori people, who have adapted their beliefs and lifestyles to the unpredictable earth. Immerse yourself in this ancient culture and learn about their ancestral connection to nature during an exclusive lunch at the Turama Retreat. Continue by private jet on a short flight to Napier and settle into our delightful lodge, a working sheep and cattle farm on the North Island’s eastern coast that is considered one of New Zealand’s top accommodations. Join a shepherd for a tour of the farm the next morning, and watch a demonstration of the farm dogs mustering the sheep. Then choose from a variety of activities, such as monitoring kiwis and their hatchlings with local experts or visiting the Cape Sanctuary to spot rare native birds and reptiles, including the tuatara—an endemic lizard-like creature that coexisted with the dinosaurs. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Daily

DAYS 6 -7:       SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA– Park Hyatt Sydney

Fly to Auckland to clear customs and immigration and continue across the Tasman Sea to Sydney. Upon arrival, transfer to our waterfront hotel. The next morning, head for the historic Rocks district on a guided walking tour. Trace early colonial history as you stroll past old pubs and cottages where Australia’s colorful first European settlers built their lives. End the tour at the legendary Sydney Opera House and explore this masterpiece of architecture and engineering with a private guide. Half of the group will do these tours in reverse order. Then set sail on a luxury cruise on Sydney Harbour, hearing the history of this famous waterway as you glide past iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, and sail into beautiful bays and coves. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Daily.

DAYS 8 – 10:   HOBART TASMANIA– MACq 01 Hotel

Fly south to the beautiful island state of Tasmania, once the site of Australia’s most notorious penal settlement. Today the island is known for its dramatic landscapes—from glaciated mountains to rainforests and stunning beaches—as well as its thriving cultural scene. Touch down in the port city of Hobart, situated on the Derwent River. The city’s deep-water port led to rapid growth during the 1800s, when Hobart became a center for whaling and sealing. After lunch, visit the Cascades Female Factory to hear real-life accounts of Australia’s female convicts from the 1800s. Then stroll amid the charming cottages and gardens of Battery Point, one of Hobart’s oldest areas. The next day, encounter Tasmanian devils at the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary and learn about recent conservation successes that have brought the largest carnivorous marsupials back from the brink of extinction. After lunch, sample whiskies and other spirits at Sullivans Cove Distillery, makers of superior, small-batch single malt whiskies. This evening, visit the Museum of Old and New Art (Mona). Situated on the grounds of a historic vineyard, the museum features subterranean galleries built into the side of a cliff. Enjoy a private opening of the museum and a self-guided tour, followed by dinner in the Nolan Gallery. Choose from several excursions the following day. Step back to another era on a guided tour of the haunting ruins of Port Arthur, a 19th-century penal settlement set on a stunning peninsula. Sample local cheese and charcuterie, cool-climate wines, and pastries on a foodie tour of Hobart’s own producers. Or trace the colorful history of Australia’s second-oldest city on a walking tour of Hobart. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Daily.

DAYS 11-12:    ADELAIDE– Mayfair Hotel

Arrive in Adelaide, South Australia’s cultural hub. Encounter Australia’s most iconic creatures on a behind-the-scenes tour of Cleland Wildlife Park, home to kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, emus, and more. In the evening, indulge your palate with unforgettable food and wine experience at the Penfolds Magill Estate, where wines have been crafted since 1844. Then head into the Barossa Valley, one of Australia’s best-known wine regions. Soak up the rare mix of Australian and German heritage as you sample excellent vintages at renowned wineries, including the Seppeltsfield Centennial Cellar. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Daily

DAYS 13 – 14: ULURU AND BROOME– Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa

Rise early for a tour of the Adelaide Central Market, where merchants and producers offer tastings of their gourmet concoctions. Then fly to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, home to Uluru, Australia’s sacred monolith. Encounter this mass of red sandstone, which measures nearly six miles in circumference and rises 1,142 feet. Hear the creation story of the people who have lived here for tens of thousands of years, and witness the mystical beauty of the rock and its gorges. Enjoy a tea at the base of Uluru before a visit to the cultural center to learn more about the indigenous Anangu people. Later, continue by private jet to Broome, a city on the Indian Ocean that is known for its gorgeous beaches. Settle into a beach resort on celebrated Cable Beach. The next day, travel by seaplane into the heart of the Kimberley for a fast boat adventure through Horizontal Falls. Cruise along the dramatic coast and see sharks and crocodiles up close from the safety of an underwater cage. Enjoy flightseeing on the way back to Broome before time to relax at the beach. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Daily.

DAYS 15-17:    DAINTREE RAINFORESRT AND GREAT BARRIER REEF– Silky Oaks Lodge

Fly to Winton to see the world’s largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils on a guided tour of the laboratory and collection room of the impressive Australian Age of Dinosaurs museum. Our next flight brings us to the coastal city of Cairns, the gateway to two UNESCO World Heritage sites: the Great B

DAYS 18 – 20:  MELBOURNE– Park Hyatt Melbourne

Land in Melbourne, one of the world’s great cosmopolitan cities, which blossomed in the 1850s when gold was discovered nearby. In the afternoon, head for Phillip Island, just off the coast, and venture along treetop boardwalks with a park ranger to view wildlife up close at the Koala Conservation Reserve. Then witness the famous Penguin Parade, when little penguins waddle from surf to dunes at dusk after a day of fishing. Alternatively, tour the Old Melbourne Gaol, where some of Australia’s most notorious outlaws met their end, and learn about the site’s role during the Gold Rush and World War II. Enjoy a private dinner at the City Watch House. On our final day, stroll through the arcades and lanes of the city with a guide, admiring art deco and Victorian buildings, and visiting the studios of artists and craftspeople. Then cruise the Yarra River for a different perspective on this lovely city, seeing some of its contemporary neighborhoods and the Royal Botanic Gardens. Step ashore for a sculpture walk on Herring Island. Celebrate our adventure down under at a farewell reception and dinner. Transfer to the airport for individual flights home the next day. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Daily.

THE TCS “UNCHARTERED DISCOVERY” PRIVATE JET EXPERIENCE

DATES:                    NOVEMBER 28 -DECEMBER 18, 2022

OPERATOR             TCS WORLD TRAVEL

TITLE                        “UNCHARTED DISCOVERY” PRIVATE JET EXPERIENCE

# DAYS                    21

FROM/TO               NEW ORLEANS TO THE BAHAMAS

ITINERARY RATING:          B

ITINERARY ANALYSIS:      We feel that the addition of Bogota and the Bahamas at the end of this tour takes away from the bucket list destinations of Machu Picchu and Antarctica. Staying on-site at Machi Picchu would have been preferable and we wish there was another day or two for elevation acclimation.

YOUR PRIVATE JET:              For this journey, TCS will be using a reconfigured AirbusA321neo-LR with 48 seats that recline 180 degrees. The plane features a social lounge area, larger lavatories, personal ottoman Amenities include On-demand entertainment and in-flight Wi-Fi. It is, relatively speaking, a smaller jet than we find utilized on most itineraries in this price range.

THE OCEANIA 218-DAY 2023 WORLD CRUISE

DATES:                    DECEMBER 28, 2022 –AUGUST 2, 2023

CRUISE LINE:         OCEANIA

VESSEL:                   NAUTICA

# DAYS:                   218

FROM/TO:             MIAMI – NEW YORK

DAYS AT SEA:        46 OF 218 = 21%

ITINERARY RATING:          A

ITINERARY ANALYSIS:      True World Cruise in the biblical sense but 30 days in South America along with weeks spent in California and Mexico seem to miss goals of a true bucket-list journey. The sheer number of ports along with extra time in many has to place this among the top three world cruise programs we have examined.

THE VESSEL:                The Nautica was not designed or built by Oceania. The ship was originally built twenty-one years ago for Renaissance Cruise Line. This is an excellent value but the Nautica should not be considered a five-star vessel. Standard staterooms are smaller than average and for a voyage of this length, anything less than a Penthouse accommodation will seem claustrophobic. The ship is, we feel, due for a major refurbishment. The food onboard rivals that of 5-star competitors including Regent Seven Seas which also belongs to the Norwegian Cruise Holdings Group. We rank Oceania near the top when it comes to value and that is important for a cruise of this length. On-board lecture programs have not rivaled some of Oceania’s competitors in the World Cruise Market.

THE SEABOURN SOJOURN 2023 AROUND THE WORLD CRUISE

DATES:                             JANUARY 6, 2023 – May 27, 2023

CRUISE LINE:                  SEABOURN

# DAYS                             140

FROM/TO:                      MIAMI – BARCELONA

DAYS AT SEA:                  74 = 54% OF CRUISE

ITINERARY RATING:          B

ITINERARY ANALYSIS:      Strong presence in the South Pacific with an excellent selection of ports but this cruise includes 74 days at sea in order to reach its far-reaching goals. On this ATW itinerary, 54% of one’s time is spent at sea. That’s a lot of Lee Child and John Grisham.

VESSEL PROFILE:                At under 500 guests, the Sojourn is viewed by many as the perfect-size ship for an ATH journey. But the ship’s intimate size may not always be a plus when it comes to dining and entertainment choices on a cruise of this length. Service is of the highest order and guests look forward to the occasional formal night. Seabourn is somewhat less formal than Silversea but less casual than Regent Seven Seas. It would be next to impossible to avoid making lifelong friends on a voyage of this length and time aboard ship at sea.

TONNAGE:                   32,000 gross tons

LENGTH:                       650 feet

BEAM:                           84 feet

DRAFT:                          21 feet

SPEED:                          19 knots

POWER PLANT:           Diesel-electric

PROPULSION:              Two propellers

REGISTRY:                    The Bahamas

BUILDER:                      Mariotti (Italy)

CAPACITY:                    450 (double occupancy)

CREW:                           335

ENTERED SERVICE:     2010

THE 2023 REGENT MARINER WORLD CRUISE

DATES             JANUARY 7 – MAY 30, 2023

CRUISE LINE  REGENT SEVEN SEAS

# DAYS            140 NIGHTS NAVIGATE THE WORLD

FROM             MIAMI TO BARCELONA

ABOARD        700 GUEST MARINER

6 CONTINENTS • 42 COUNTRIES • 72 PORT OF CALLS • 11 OVERNIGHT STAYS

ITINERARY RATING:          A

ITINERARY ANALYSIS:      This exemplary itinerary includes enough bucket list destinations to qualify as a “one ship shop of wonders”. The full 140-Day port-intensive schedule includes 62 Days at Sea representing 44% of the total 140-Day Voyage. The short taste of South America at the beginning and even shorter end in Europe reflect the needs of many travelers with significant time devoted to exploring the South Pacific and Tahiti and much of cultural Asia. There is considerable time spent in the Middle East and a wonderful collection of stops in Africa. Australia is short-changed and New Zealand is skipped entirely. But that has to do with time spent in Bali and other Indonesian out-islands as well as exotics like Papua New Guinea. Simply stated, one of the best, most comprehensive and exciting world cruise itineraries to appear in years.

THE VESSEL – The Mariner was designed and built for Regent launching in 2001 with a major refurbishment in 2018. The ship is extremely spacious and is considered one of the world’s few “All-Suite” ships. The very worst category on the Mariner, Category “G”, is still 300 sq. ft with a comfortable unobstructed balcony and a stocked refrigerator. Unlike several of the vessels on the World Cruise List, it would not be necessary to seriously upgrade one’s cabin aboard this ship. She weighs in at 48,075 Gross Registered Tons (GRT) for 700 guests. The ship’s dining options receive high marks and there are no additional charges for specialty dining reservations.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC ‘WILDLIFE OF THE WORLD” PRIVATE JET JOURNEY

DATES:                    APRIL 19-MAY 12, 2023

OPERATOR             NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC EXPEDITIONS

# DAYS                    24

FROM/TO               SINGAPORE TO ROME

ITINERARY RATING:          B –

ITINERARY ANALYSIS:      This itinerary seems to include several unnecessary days given the stated goal of the trip in its title. Exotic birds are interesting but those seeking to view wildlife in their natural habitats may be disappointed with the time and energy given to “birding” on this program. There are, we believe, superior private jet programs within the African continent that could be more rewarding for those whose primary purpose is animal viewing.

PRIVATE JET PROFILE:               Aircraft: Boeing 757-200E with 48 seats

Type of Seats: Flatbed (180-degree recline)

  • Custom configured with only 12 rows and 48 first-class flatbed seats, compared to 239 seats on a commercial Boeing 757 aircraft
  • A hospital-grade air filtration system that removes 99.9% of viruses and particles
  • 6.5 feet of personal space in full seat recline
  • Mid-height rear privacy screens and personal ottomans with storage
  • In-seat power outlets and USB ports
  • In-flight presentation system and on-demand entertainment*
  • Noise-canceling headsets
  • Experienced flight crew and staff at your service throughout your trip including 7 cabin crew and a trip physician who accompanies you on your entire journey

DETAILED DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

DAYS  1 – 2:    SINGAPORE–  The Fullerton Bay Hotel

Arrive in Singapore and meet your experts and fellow travelers for a welcome reception and dinner. The next day, head to the Singapore Zoo, internationally recognized for its conservation efforts, including a successful orangutan breeding program. Then experience the breathtaking Gardens by the Bay, where futuristic architecture showcases an incredible diversity of botanical species. If you wish, set off on a night safari in the world’s first nocturnal zoo. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Daily

DAYS 3 – 5 :     BORNEO , MALAYSIA–  Sepilok Nature Resort or MY Nature Resort; Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort or Sukau Rainforest Lodge

Fly by private jet to Sandakan on Borneo’s northeastern coast, and drive to the KabiliSepilok Forest Reserve. Encounter rescued Malayan sun bears at the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre and continue to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre to observe orangutans and learn about efforts to protect them. These critically endangered great apes—endemic to only Borneo and the Indonesian island of Sumatra—are some of our closest relatives, sharing some 97% of their DNA with humans. Spend two nights in the heart of the lush Kinabatangan River basin. Explore jungle waterways by boat with naturalist guides, and venture into the rainforest on foot to search for Borneo’s unique species: orangutans, gibbons, proboscis monkeys, pygmy elephants, and a range of rare birds. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Daily

DAY 6 :            JAIPUR , INDIA–  Rambagh Palace

Touch down in Jaipur, the capital of the desert state of Rajasthan, and settle into our splendid accommodations at Rambagh Palace, a former residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur. Set out to explore the “pink city,” where sauntering camels share the road with rickshaws, and majestic, rose-colored monuments overlook bustling bazaars. Visit the 16th-century Amber Fort, the historic seat of Jaipur’s Rajput rulers. Admire the fort’s enchanting architecture, a blend of Mughal and Rajput styles, and its exquisitely carved, hand-painted ceilings. Or take a drive through old Jaipur to see the city’s pink sandstone walls and many beautiful gates; marvel at the honeycomb façade of the Hawa Mahal, or the Palace of the Winds; and discover the magnificent City Palace. Time permitting, stop by the 18th-century royal observatory known as Jantar Mantar.

DAYS 7- 8 :      RANTHAMBHORE NATIONAL PARK,–  The Oberoi Vanyavilas Wildlife Resort, Aman-i-Khas, or Sujan Sher Bagh

Drive southeast to Ranthambore National Park (do we want to add 3.5 hour drive) , once the private hunting ground of the maharajas and now a protected habitat for the endangered Bengal tiger. After many years of declining numbers, India’s population of Bengal tigers has finally begun to increase thanks to conservation efforts. Set out on safari in 4x4s to search for leopards; sloth bears; and the sambar, Asia’s largest species of deer.  With luck, we may glimpse the elusive tiger. If you wish, visit Dastkar Ranthambore, an NGO dedicated to improving livelihoods in the surrounding communities, and see locally made embroidery, block prints, and pottery. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Daily

DAYS 9 – 11 :   YALA NATIONAL PARK  AND BUNDALA NATIONAL PARK, SRI LANKA– Wild Coast Tented Lodge or Uga Chena Hut

Fly by private jet to Mattala, Sri Lanka and transfer to our beachfront lodge. Explore the diverse ecosystems of Yala National Park on safari, seeking out elephants, leopards, sloth bears, spotted deer, peacocks, and some 200 bird species. Then venture to the coastal wetlands of Bundala National Park to see a plethora of migratory and resident birds and perhaps a crocodile basking in the shallows. If you wish, attend the evening puja at Kataragama temple, sacred to Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, and the indigenous Vedda people. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Daily.

DAYS 12 – 14 : MALÉ, MALDIVES– Ozen Reserve Bolifushi or similar.

Arrive in Malé, the capital of this stunning Indian Ocean archipelago. Made up of some 1,200 coral islands and protected by barrier reefs, the Maldives stretch across more than 500 miles of ocean just south of India. We’ll stay on one of these spectacular coral isles and spend our time discovering extraordinary marine habitats and getting acquainted with local culture. You may have the chance to go snorkeling, take part in local traditions, or look for dolphins and other marine life on a wildlife cruise. Enjoy time on your own to relax on private, white-sand beaches or indulge in our resort’s world-class spa.  Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Daily.

DAYS 15 – 16: NOSY BE, MADAGASCAR– Ravintsara Wellness Hotel

On the island of Madagascar, an estimated 80 percent of species are endemic—including its celebrated lemurs. Fly by private jet to Nosy Be, a stunning island off the northwestern coast. Settle into bungalows nestled among tropical gardens on the coast. The next morning, cruise to Lokobe Reserve for a hike in the lowland rainforests, home to black lemurs and Nosy Be panther chameleons. Or sail by catamaran to Nosy Tanikely to explore the island’s diverse flora and fauna and go snorkeling among vibrant reefs. In the afternoon, visit Lemuria Land, a nature reserve that harbors many of Madagascar’s endemic species, including lemurs, lizards, chameleons, orchids, and more. End the tour at a distillery where the essential oils of the island’s prevalent ylang ylang flower are extracted. Enjoy a festive dinner with a performance by local musicians.  Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Daily.

DAYS 17- 1 9:  PHINDA PRIVATE GAME RESERVE, SOUTH AFRICA– and Beyond Phinda Private Game Reserve: Forest Lodge or Mountain Lodge

Land in Johannesburg and continue on a charter flight to Phinda Private Game Reserve, where seven distinct habitats—from mountains and wetlands to rare dry-sand forests— harbor a spectacular array of wildlife. Settle into one of two intimate lodges within the park, then set off with expert rangers and trackers on an open-vehicle safari. Stop for sundowner cocktails as the sun sets and watch for nocturnal creatures on the ride back to your lodge. Enjoy two full days to experience this remarkable habitat on sunrise and lateafternoon wildlife drives. Seek out the famed “big five”—lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and Cape buffalo—and spot some of the nearly 450 bird species seen on the reserve. During free time between safaris, take a bush walk with a ranger or relax on your veranda and enjoy the views. Gather one evening for a special dinner in the bush, accompanied by a marimba band. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Daily.

DAYS 20 – 22: KIGALI OR VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK, RWANDA– Amakoro Songa Lodge, Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge, or One&Only Gorilla’s Nest; Kigali Marriott Hotel

Make our final wildlife stop in Rwanda, where jungle-clad volcanoes harbor a growing population of mountain gorillas. On a full-day gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park, search for these fascinating giants that the late Dian Fossey studied with support from National Geographic. Learn about conservation efforts and enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime chance to sit among gorilla families and observe them at close range. Then seek out endangered golden monkeys with a resident biologist and attend a talk by a researcher at the Karisoke Research Center before returning to Kigali for a night. Alternatively, opt to stay in Kigali and delve into the inspiring stories of Rwanda’s people at the Akilah Institute, which provides higher education to women, and the Kigali Memorial Centre. Here, meet survivors and hear their stories of fear and loss—and of reconciliation and healing. Toast our extraordinary wildlife adventure at a festive farewell dinner. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Daily.

DAYS 23 – 24: ROME, ITALY–  Hotel d’Inghilterra

After breakfast, fly to Rome and transfer to our boutique hotel, an elegant palazzo near the Spanish Steps. Enjoy dinner with your fellow travelers and return home via commercial air the following day.  Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner | Day 24: Breakfast

AMAWATERWAYS SEVEN RIVER EUROPEAN JOURNEY

THE WORLD’S LONGEST  RIVER CRUISE

DATES:                    AUGUST 24 – OCTOBER 9, 2023

# DAYS:                   47 (14 Countries)

FROM/TO:               PARIS TO GIURGIU, ROMANIA

VESSELS: (3)          AMA LYRA, AMA CERTO, AMA VERDE

Luxury River Cruise Line Provides Another Opportunity for Guests to Explore 14 European Countries Over 46 Nights, Citing Overwhelming Demand for Its Innovative Seven River Journey Series

ITINERARY RATING:          A+

ITINERARY ANALYSIS:      This is not for everyone but it is an amazing feat of planning for those who wish to travel to the heart of Europe on its rivers versus ocean travel via cruise ship. The placement of AMA ships requires only two changes of ship and AMA makes certain that all ship transfers flow smoothly. There is nothing to compare with this itinerary – no one but AMA has ever done it. Stateroom are smaller than they would be on luxury cruise ships and every single item is not included. But an entry-level price of less than $27,000 makes this cruise the long-distance value leader. The smaller 140-160 Guest vessels have little in the way of evening entertainment. There is only one main lounge and there are few dining options. (AMA food rankings are among the highest in the category). But if being docked in the center of everything is important, along with an intimate collection of fellow guests, this sailing should be carefully considered. Those expressing interest should assume that a wait-list reservation may be all that is available – both previous 7-River itineraries sold out quickly.

This is the Ultimate Journey for those who wish to see Europe in-depth and who enjoy hearing that there are virtually “zero days at sea”.

AmaWaterways, has launched a third Seven River Journey for Autumn 2023.Taking guests through 14 distinctive countries over 47 days, the Autumn sailing will take place during many regions’ wine harvest and colorful fall foliage. Based on the overwhelming popularity of the Spring and Summer Editions, AmaWaterways is providing yet another opportunity for guests to experience an unforgettable extended vacation during the spectacular fall foliage period in Europe. Embarking August 24, 2023 from Paris, France and returning October 9, 2023 to Giurgiu, Romania, guests can relax and experience the best that Europe has to offer leaving all the details to AmaWaterways.

Sailing onboard three award-winning ships celebrated for their high safety and environmental standards, guests who reserve their spot on Seven River Journey – Autumn Edition will revel in the top-notch amenities, exceptional cuisine and attentive service that AmaWaterways is known for, along with new experiences that will surprise and delight. Guests embark from Paris on AmaLyra to sail along the Seine River, before transferring to AmaCerto in Amsterdam to experience the beautiful sites along the Scheldt, Maas, Rhine, Main and Moselle rivers. Their epic journey concludes with two weeks on board AmaVerde sailing the full length of the Danube. Experiences to be had along the journey include:

  • Days 1-6 (AmaLyra): France – Guests can cruise along the relaxing Normandy countryside between Paris and Le Havre just before the autumn apple harvest, admiring scenic views and discovering historic sites. A full-day excursion to the Pays d’Auge region of Normandy will deliver culinary delights ranging from apple cider to the French aperitif Pommeau, and a biking tour through the charming town of Les Andelys will provide beautiful views as the season begins to change.
  • Days 6-32 (AmaCerto): Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland – A variety of surprises await guests as they visit these breathtaking countries known for their stunning fall foliage and unique cultural experiences. In the Netherlands, guests can stroll past traditional canals and charming houseboats while tasting Dutch specialties. A visit to the medieval town of Bruges is not to be missed, plus plenty of hiking or biking through beautiful vineyards are also on the itinerary. Exclusive to this journey, guests will be treated to a crémant-tasting in the charming French village of Obernai with its ancient market square and baroque 16th-century town hall.
  • Days 33-47 (AmaVerde): Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania – During the final leg of the journey, guests will be treated to exclusive experiences and enjoyable tours including an Oktoberfest celebration with music and beer just for AmaWaterways guests, a walking tour in Dürnstein along its cobblestone streets and a visit to the Szekszárd wine region, one of the oldest red-wine-growing areas in Hungary.

ITINERARY ANALYSIS:  “Whether you choose to travel for 105 or 89 nights, both Full World Cruise options weave a vibrant tapestry of traditions, flavors and enrichment Embark on an epic adventure through the Southern Hemisphere and beyond, exploring fascinating lands that will captivate your curiosity, tantalize your senses, and warm your soul with sun-drenched wonders. Allow the majestic fjords of New Zealand to stir your inner adventurer. Take an overland adventure to India’s Agra Fort and delve into the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Sri Lanka. Dip your toes into the cultural melting pot of India and follow the path of legendary empires in Arabia.”

Anyway, this is what the marketing folks would say about this itinerary.

We are less enthusiastic. There are 36 days at sea for a 34% percentage of the total. This strikes us as excessive and can account for several interesting parts of this itinerary, such as Israel and the Middle East, where we feel much more could have been included for a more comprehensive look at the region. Guests who board on the 5th, are on the ship until January 28th before leaving North America and finally reaching French Polynesia. This is clearly a cruise for those more sedentary who do not view a world cruise as an opportunity to collect as wide an array of destination experiences as possible. The cruise ends in Rome but, sadly, there are no iconic Italian ports included.

Space ratio per guest is excellent and the Serenity is large enough to handle whatever the sea gods may toss her way. Standard staterooms are tight. There are smaller inside staterooms perfect for children or those on a world cruise budget.

ITINERARY ANALYSIS:      Excellent worldwide itinerary, especially for the first-time Ultimate trip guest. Only 11% of the voyage is devoted to days at sea on this beautifully scaled routing.  Those who begin the full cruise in Miami will spend 25 days before finally departing the States, Central America,  and Mexico before calling on Kauai. The extra time devoted to New Zealand the return crossing ending back in Florida are highlights on this “no need to fly” world cruise.

2024 Viking Ocean World Journeys -121-Day Los Angeles to London

DATES             JANUARY 9, 2024 – MAY 9, 2024

CRUISE LINE  VIKING CRUISES

VESSEL           NEPTUNE

FROM/TO      LOS ANGELES – LONDON

# DAYS            121

DAYS AT SEA  29 OF 121 = 24%

ITINERARY RATING  A-

ITINERARY ANALYSIS – Viking’s 2024 World Cruise on Viking Neptune is unusual on many fronts including the fact that guests will be sailing a beautiful new vessel. Viking is including 50 complimentary guided tours and overnights in 11 destinations over the course of 121 days. That is a nice marketing phrase but what it really means is that there are no included tours on 71 days. Viking offers “amenities” but the line is not “all-inclusive” one reason, along with passenger density, that the line is rated 4 rather than 5 stars. Guests will cross the Pacific and soak in the breathtaking natural beauty of Hawaii and French Polynesia. Discover the rich heritage and thriving vineyards of New Zealand. Explore Australia, from Tasmania in the south to picturesque Thursday Island in the northeast, with an overnight in Sydney. Carefully chosen guest lecturers will shed light on local cultures as guests explore Southeast Asia and India. Deepen your understanding of Arabia and the Holy Land, and walk the storied streets of Rome, Barcelona and Paris before arriving in London.

PRODUCT ANALYSIS:  Viking spends little time pretending to be something it is not. It is not a five-star top-luxury brand. The brand is not inclusive and customers would have a challenging time predicting what actual costs might be once onboard extras are all added up on the last day. That said, Viking was fonded on the concept that no one wants to pay for someone else’s drinking habits. There are some included shore excursions but the cost of excursions will add up on an itinerary of this length. Viking does not permit children on their sleek, beautiful Scandinavian showcases at sea. They do not have casinos. They do have better-than-average lecture programs and good sometimes memorable cuisine. The line is dedicated to spending as much time in port as possible and heralds the fact that it offers the “fewest days at sea” among major brands. And make no mistake about it, with its robust building program and independent funding in Norway, Viking has quickly emerged as the largest of the four-star plus brands. Their debt load is not insignificant but their booking numbers going forward are strong enough to justify their rapid expansion. This is not the most luxurious option for a world cruise. It is true that guests need to book up several categories to get a stateroom of decent or “Regent-Silversea” average size. But when all is said and done, we think that Viking provides the overall best value for those seeking to see the world by ship.

2024 SEABOURN WORLD CRUISE

DATES             JANUARY 11 – APRIL 20, 2024

CRUISELINE   SEABOURN

# DAYS            145 DAYS EXTRAORDINARY HORIZONS

FROM             LOS ANGELES TO ATHENS

VESSEL            458 GUEST SOJOURN

145 DAYS | 72 PORTS | 28 COUNTRIES | 20 OVERNIGHT STAYS

ALTERNATE SAILING:

105 NIGHTS    JANUARY 21 – APRIL 20, 2024    MIAMI TO ROME

ITINERARY RATING:          A-

ITINERARY ANALYSIS:  With 20 overnight stays in world-renowned such as Sydney, Australia and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam as well as a two-night/three-day stay in Shanghai, China, this tantalizing itinerary will deliver an exception way to cruise the world.  You will call upon the picturesque island harbors of Indonesia, the Philippine Archipelago and the breathtaking Maldives.  Day after day when you do ashore you will explore more than 40 UNESCO World Heritage sites, local markets in places like Sydney, Manila, Ho Chi Minh City, Phuket and Haifa, marvel at the waters in the Great Barrier Reef, all while enjoying the distinctive and local cuisines and wines from every part of the world you are visiting.

That is what the marketing folks at Seabourn say – here is how we see it:

This is one of the better world cruise programs in recent years. Rather than literally trying to bite off much of the world, this program does the South Pacific and, particularly, Asia at a level of depth to be admired.

With 29 of 145 days at sea, guests are looking at an 80 – 20% ratio of ports to days at sea which strikes us as almost ideal.

THE SOJOURN:

Launched                  2010

# Guests                    450

GRT                            32,346

SPACE RATIO           71.8 (Outstanding)

The Sojourn is the perfect size for socialization over several weeks but some will feel that she is perfect for two weeks at sea and, perhaps, a bit too intimate for more than four months at sea. Intimacy on a world cruise comes at a price and here it results in less entertainment, dining, and new best friend search options.

DATES                      JANUARY 15 – MAY 26, 2024

CRUISELINE            SILVERSEA

# DAYS                     132 NIGHTS

FROM                      SAN FRANCISCO TO SAN FRANCISCO

ABOARD                 388 GUEST SILVER SHADOW

ITINERARY RATING:          A

ITINERARY ANALYSIS:      This is an unusual, iconic masterpiece featuring 20 days at sea for a 85 – 15% ratio of ports to sea days. That is almost ideal but it is where the Shadow goes that is most impressive. We think guests will appreciate the San Francisco embarkation with the vessel heading straight to Hawaii. There is ample time in the South Pacific, Australia, and New Zealand before the ship heads to Indonesia and Asia in-depth, ever for a world cruise. When we speak to guests we’ve booked on world cruises, time well spent and off the beaten-track in Australia and New Zealand is rare and always well-received. We’ve never seen an itinerary that devotes so much quality time to this region of the world. China and Japan are given their just due before the Shadow heads toward Russia and a series of ports very much a part of the Northwest Passage ending in Alaska. What an incredible way to avoid summer back home. While avoiding Europe, Africa, and South America, this itinerary is able to take guests in-depth in ways we are not seeing on other competing itineraries. This is one that deserves your careful attention.
